Do you have Spring Fever like me? I always get the urge to clean the house in the spring and start fresh before summer hits, because I know that when the snow finally melts, I sure as heck don't want to spend my time inside cleaning. My favorite cleaning product, by the way, is baking soda - it does wonders seriously, and if you need to clean your carpet it's all natural (and cheap!). No need to buy the expensive carpet refreshers - just make your own.
What You Need
- Baking Soda
- Lavender Buds
- Favorite Essential Oil
Step By Step
1. For a large area rug, take a cup full of baking soda then add crushed lavender buds and a few drops of your favorite essential oil (don't add too much to make it wet). Stir that around and let sit for a little bit.
2. Sprinkle the mixture over your carpet and let it rest on the carpet for at least 20 minutes.
3. Vacuum up the baking soda and lavender buds and your carpet should be spring-time fresh.
ALSO. My other favorite use for baking soda is to clean my sink with. First, put a teakettle of water on to boil. Then, pore a couple tablespoons a baking soda down your drain, then take plain old vinegar (the cheap stuff) and poor it slowly down the drain. It should fizz, which is the cleaning action. Keep poring vinegar down the drain until it's barely fizzing then poor boiling water down the drain to flush it all away. Repeat if necessary. Also works great for showers. Mind you, it won't break up clogs, but it's good maintenance.
